As the skies get greyer and the rain gets heavier, it’s easy to want to stay in and wait for the summer to come. Not to mention the BCIT workload getting heavier and the daunting midterm exam schedule looming over. But if you’re looking to escape the eh-pod, Great Hall, or whatever your study location of choice, well then these activities might just be for you!
Winter Wander
Our Vancouver winter may only last a day or two when the snow decides to come but you can still enjoy some winter activities here in the city! This Saturday from 10am-5pm, check out some of Vancouver’s most iconic museums for a discounted price. For only $5 you get access to 5 locations, that’s a mere $1 per location!
Start the day off exploring the Vancouver Archives to get a look at Vancouver’s past then make your way to the Academy of Music to soak in some tunes.
Then make your way over to the Maritime Museum where their current exhibit, Ghost Passages of the McKenzie Shipyards, displays an artist’s resurrection of a once thriving North Vancouver working-class community from the 1930s – 60’s, which was torn down by developers in August of 2014.
Move along next to the MacMillan Space Centre where you can learn all about space and the advances being made in space exploration. With interactive displays and space experts on site, the Space Centre will surely be able to teach you a little something you never knew.
Finally, end the day at the Museum of Vancouver where you can explore all of their exhibits in full swing including the brand new Your Future Home: Creating the New Vancouver and c̓əsnaʔəm, the city before the city, to connect a bit more with this lovely city in which we live. Also included in the ticket price is access to the MOV permanent exhibitions highlighting life in Vancouver from the year 1900 all the way to the 1950’s.
Sorry guys, this one’s for the ladies
Ladies, if you’re looking for a budget friendly winter activity, go check out Shred for the Cause, happening at Mt Seymour every Monday night from now until March 28th. Go hit the slopes every Monday from 6pm-10pm for only $10 with half of the proceeds going to The Bloom Group, a local organization providing some of the most progressive social services in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for over 50 years, including low-barrier shelters for women and children.
What else can you expect in addition to the budget-friendly lift pass??
