Who Are We
Link Magazine is a hub for student ideas and culture at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Published in print and online by the BCIT Student Association, our content is produced by a team of student editors and contributors across BCIT’s 5 campuses in the Lower Mainland. Link magazines are printed 8 times annually and distributed for free at all five campuses and other community events. We publish stories about inspiring and influential students at BCIT, plus essays and features on just about any topic that connects readers to the world around them— from games and gadgets, to the environment, politics and pop culture.
Our History
Link newspaper arrived on campus in 1965 as the official voice of the BCIT student community. If there was breaking news on campus, Link had you covered with a weekly digest of student opinion, local events listing, and more. In the Fall of 2013, Link editors saw an opportunity to reinvent BCIT’s student voice, with an updated focus on design and producing unique content. Today, Link Magazine carries on that tradition of being an outlet for expression by BCIT students, and has grown to be a hub for students looking to make genuine connections with their peers while they develop their skills as content creators.
Awards
Thank you to the Canadian Online Publishing Awards for granting Link magazine the Best Academic Print & Digital Publication for 2019.
How We Operate
Link is managed by the Publications Department at the BCIT Student Association (the BCITSA funds the magazine). The Publications manager and Publications Coordinator work with a variety of students to ensure the magazine is produced to a high standard and on schedule. Each September they hire four part-time BCIT students as the Editor, Designer, Digital Media Associate, and Communications Associate. These students ensure that the magazine reflects the current interests of BCIT students and encourage other BCIT students to get involved.
Link also has 30-60 students on our “contributor list” who will take on writing, design, or photography assignments as needed. Students will also take on tasks related to delivery and marketing as needed. Any BCIT student can join the contributor list and request an assignment! Learn more on our “Get Involved” page.
