As spring arrived in Vancouver, BCIT Student Association brought the first-ever Spring Thing to the Burnaby campus on April 22–23. Over two days, Beedie Plaza transformed into an outdoor carnival space with games, treats, and hands-on activities.
Day one
Kicked off strong as 600 BAK’D Cookies were snatched up in just two and a half hours by eager students waiting in line to try the many flavours. Nearby, the claw machines quickly became a crowd favourite, with students lining up repeatedly for “just one more try” at winning a cute plushie. Every so often, cheers would erupt across Beedie Plaza when someone finally scored a prize.
In the main area, groups of students tried their hand at a 9-hole mini-golf course, competing with their friends and showing off their putting skills. Nearby, at the temporary tattoo station, friends sifted through designs to find the perfect match and helped each other apply them. Lots of students also sat at the craft table designing personalized tote bags, and some nursing students proudly sketched anatomical hearts to show off their field.

Day two kept the energy going
The petting zoo drew gasps as students oohed and aahed at all the snakes, lizards, and geckos in front of their eyes. Outside, students competed on Jacob’s ladder and waited in line for fresh, cinnamon-coated mini donuts.
There was also a fun bonus: students could collect stamps in their event passports and each day’s attendance earned them an entry into a raffle to win exciting prizes.

The atmosphere stayed upbeat as students dropped by between classes to relax and enjoy the activities with friends while soaking up the spring vibes outside. The Spring Thing was the perfect way to wrap up the school year!
