Last Friday we hosted our 7th annual Wright Brothers airplane competition. 8 teams came out to the BCIT Aerospace campus on Friday morning to compete on their day off.
The students spent the first part of the competition building their planes out of office supplies that they were given from the Student Association. They were also given a sheet of paper to make a paper plane out of. After the hour and a half of building time was over the students flew their individual paper planes off the Hub. Cyrel Gonzales won the paper plane portion of the competition and walked away with a Snap-On tool set.
Then all the teams had two chances to fly their main planes off the Hub. Whatever distance was longer they got to keep. We also had ATC instructors as judges. Team Bang Bang won second place for most creative design and team Rock Pile took home third place for best crash. Both teams received gift certificates to Pier 73 or The Flying Beaver. The grand prize, a Helijet tour for four went to our winning team, Gee Tee Forty One who’s design was simple yet effective.
This event was a great opportunity for students to come out and do some team bonding and get creative with the skills they are learning in school. Fun was had by all!
