I’ve always compared doing my taxes to some twisted version of Price is Right, because you never quite know what you’re going to get, like that game where you punch your hand into the hole and pull out a card. It’s either going to say “Congratulations, you’ve won 1,400 Free dollars!” or it’s going to say “Congratulations: You owe the federal government a thousand bucks.”
Actually it’s quite a bit better when you’re enrolled in school, because you can claim tuition and books and you’re probably not working enough hours to owe the government anything. BUT, you definitely want to cash in on all those deductions and expense claims that are unique to student life, and it can be downright frustrating trying to figure out what’s available to you. Have no fear, because if you’re a BCIT student, then the Financial Management Students have you covered with FREE Tax Return Services done by CRA trained volunteers. Just hand it over, sit back, and let the cheques roll in.
