We may be between holiday seasons now that Halloween is over and Christmas has yet to begin, but that doesn’t mean you have to have a lull in your plans. We’re in that nice little time slot where midterms are mostly finished but studying for final exams hasn’t quite begun, so now is the time to get out and enjoy that little spare time with some Vancouver activities. Here is what’s going on over the next week in Vancouver.
Remembrance Day
There will never be a day where taking a time out to remember, and honour, the brave soldiers that fought for our country fades in importance. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to show your support by purchasing a poppy from one of the many locations that support the BC Yukon Legion through poppy sales. This Wednesday, November 11th, don’t forget to head down to your nearest Remembrance Day service to show your support for our veterans.
If you’re heading downtown for the service, stop by the Olympic torch lighting in Jack Poole Plaza at 8am before visiting Victory Square for the 10am ceremony. If you’re staying close to home, you can visit any one of the Remembrance Day activities in the Lower Mainland to show your respect.
Cosmic Nights
Cosmic Nights is an opportunity to explore the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and learn all about space without any kids getting in the way. Following suit of the other Vancouver icons that host adult only nights, the Vancouver space attraction is hosting a black hole themed evening this Thursday Nov. 12th from 6:30pm-10:00pm for just $20.
The space centre will have everything from talks on Newton’s and Einstein’s perspectives on gravity to drawing your own black hole to Demonstrations from UBC Department of Physics and Astronomy with their “Gravity Simulator” to trivia, this is going to be a fun night full of space activities that you won’t want to miss out on!
Little Mountain Improv
Last but certainly not least is a fun night of student-budget-friendly comedy at the Little Mountain Gallery with their weekly Tuesday night feature, Little Mountain Improv. Every Tuesday this independent gallery just off Main Street hosts an improv show for just $5! Plus the shows start at 8pm so you have a chance to get some studying in before taking a well deserved break to go have a laugh.
As an added bonus, the gallery is just up the street from some pretty tasty Vancouver breweries like 33 acres, Brassneck Brewery, and Main St. Brewing, so you can enjoy a nice pre or post show beverage while you’re in the area!
So there you have it, a week’s worth of activities if you are able to fit them in in between team meetings, studying, and trying to get some sleep in. Enjoy!
