The 3rd Annual “FLOAT YOUR BOAT” competition took place today at BCIT’s amazing Marine campus in North Vancouver. The 2-day challenge puts a bunch of talented BCIT students in a room together to work as teams building wind-powered boats out of surprise materials. Once all the ropes are tied off, ballasts are filled, and little figurine captains are strapped into their sponge captain’s chairs, it’s time to hit the pool and get busy racing the designs across the water using nothing but empty pizza boxes and sheer will power to propel them. Sometimes they work, sometimes they sink, but they always provide copious amounts of laughter and valuable lessons to all participants.
