When you wake up in the morning, the best way to start your day is with a refreshing positive mind, but also with energy and food for your brain. Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day, and I definitely agree. It sets you up for the rest of the day and provides you with the mental stamina and fuel that the body needs.
I know coffee in the morning is usually the route people take, and I don’t blame you. After all, it is pumpkin spiced latte season! However, a healthier option is going to pay off more in the long run. Even though this recipe isn’t that sweet, you can still load it up with brown sugar, and even a splash of milk if that’s your thing.
Looking at the photo of this breakfast bowl, I know what you’re thinking: “Too healthy,” “I would never eat that,” and “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”
But what you should be thinking is: “Mmmm an easy way to pack a ton of energy into one meal,” or simply, “Yasss, a new recipe to try!”
Oats are an incredible source of nutrients, and have a great source of vitamins, antioxidants, and fibre. Oatmeal also contains more protein and fats than most other grains.
This recipe includes bananas, which could arguably be the most popular fruit in the world. Bananas add an essential amount of nutrients that will really kick start your body with the proper vitamins and sugar to sustain your blood sugar levels. They also contain a fantastic amount of an important amino acid known as Tryptophan, which is well known for its benefits of converting into serotonin, which is famously known as the “happy drug.” Oh, happy day!
And last but not least, if you’re wondering what those grainy “gerbil food” looking ingredients are – those are flax seeds and chia seeds. Flax seeds are also known as linseeds. The little brown seed is a notorious superfood (cue superhero theme song). This little seed is so high in Omega-3’s, an essential fatty acid which, fun fact, is amazing for your skin and promotes heart health!
As for the little grey seeds, those are Ch-ch- ch chia seeds, which, in case you didn’t know, was the ancient mayan word for strength. In addition to being another high source of Omega-3’s, chia seeds are a great dietary supplement.
If you start your day with this oatmeal meal bowl instead of the usual coffee or Mr.Noodles, it contains so much nutritional substance that you could really avoid eating for the rest of the day. But of course I do not recommend that.
Recipe:
1 cup Steel cut oats
1 or 1/2 Chopped up Banana
Granola
Chia Seeds
Flax Seeds
Cinnamon
