Juicing your way to a healthy 2015

juiceIt’s that time of the year again – The festive season comes to an end, along with the comforting holiday meals and hopefully not too many bottles of wine. The New Year means new beginnings, when we make resolutions in the hopes of keeping happy our mind, body, and soul. If you’ve been searching for a way to do so, then body cleansing and detoxification just might be your match.

Now we all have different body types, so it’s important to consult a doctor before embarking on the journey of detoxification. There are hundreds of methods out there including ‘The Master Cleanse’ (Known as The Lemonade Diet) made famous by Beyoncé which entails of drinking lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper with water whenever you feel hungry (weight loss is promised, but waking up ***Flawless is not guaranteed).

Another popular option is the colon cleansing technique done by taking store bought products, or visiting a practitioner to have a colon irrigation. These methods have many myths, and risks surrounding them, which is why the Juice Cleanse stays number one on my list as a safe and nutritional way to jumpstart your healthy lifestyle.

We spoke to Jacqueline Doll The Local Lift Juice Bar to get the juice on the trend.

What is a Juice Cleanse?

 It is when a person drinks fresh juice made from fruits and vegetables for nutritional purposes, and does not consume other forms of food for a given time period. Typically you start with a pre – cleanse, where you eliminate certain food products and drink a set amount of water a day.

During the cleanse, you will typically have a glass of water in the morning and only focus on having juice through out the day. The post – cleanse is when you slowly start adding back healthy foods, for example greens on day 1, nuts on day 2, and grains on day 3. This way you are giving your body time to adjust into and out of the detox.

 Why is the Juice Cleanse so popular?

It is popular because it is much safer than other extreme diets and techniques, where you could potentially end up harming your body. Juice cleanses are made completely from raw fruits and vegetables, so you are flooding your body with essential nutrients and minerals instead of starving yourself of them.

We have been open since June of 2013, and we noticed that January of last year was definitely a very busy time for us when people were coming in to start off the New Year as healthy as possible.

What are some benefits to the Juice Cleanse?

 There are many mental and physical benefits to this cleanse including boosting your immune system, improving the condition of your skin and hair, reducing your body toxicity level, and increasing energy. Many of our clients say they feel an overall improvement in their mind and body awareness as well. It can facilitate weight loss, but again this is done in a healthy way rather than the intake of pills and unsafe methods.

What are some popular Juice Cleanses?

 We have a great selection of natural juices, and smoothies that are made fresh daily. Our most well known juice is The Go Green that is made of apple, cucumber, ginger, celery, lemon and kale.

We have an upcoming Spring Juice Cleanse that can be done for 3 days, or even up till 10 days. Each day you consume 6 fresh pressed 16-oz juices, 2 herbal teas, 1 hot master cleanse drink, 1-cup vegetable broth, 2500mg of spirulina, and one lemon.
