BCIT’s Student Association has allocated $170,000 from its student space committee budget to the project, and is waiting on approval of the remaining $895,000 from the provincial government
Construction could begin as early as next spring if the provincial money comes through, and could be ready before March 2016. Now that the application has been submitted, it’s only a matter of waiting explains SA director Caroline Gagnon. If the provincial funding falls through, the SA will most likely re-submit or may have to cancel the project all together.
The EhPod expansion is being headed by the library, which will be working together with BCIT facilities. The SA is helping the library financially, and will be providing feedback from students on what they would like to see on the new space.
Current study space will not be affected by construction as the project will be re-vamping unused space next to the current EhPod area. The new space is expected to have small study rooms, personal study spaces, and a possible a nap room; but the final design is yet to be determined.
