White Bird In A Blizzard is about a daughter looking back to a time when her mother disappeared on her and her father. The movie reflects on issues like sex, love, affairs, and jealousy. Starring Shailene Woodley as daughter, Kat, Kat becomes curious as to why her mother left her family when she was 17. Overtime she becomes less curious until one day the truth is revealed and changes her perspective on her mother.
It was strange seeing Woodley have nude scenes in this film. I’m used to seeing her play protagonists in young adult book-to-film adaptations like Divergent, and The Fault in Our Stars. I will admit I did enjoy her performance in the film. Her emotional scenes were convincing and didn’t leave me cringing like when I watch other Hollywood actors. She didn’t overact in her performance – and that’s what I like to see. The mystery of the mother’s disappearance left some audience members craving for more information, but once the answer was revealed – it was almost too obvious.
The ending will still leave you shocked. Viewers in the theatre were in hysterics after the reveal, despite the predictability. It’s hard to explain without spoiling the film so just see it for yourself.
